lent 28 - wipe clean grace of God
Im sitting here looking at a blank page. I have nothing to say today because I dont really think God has said anything or shown me anything, or if He did I cant remember the fleeting thought I didnt write down...... so....... the page is blank.
A blank page reminds me of holiness. Unblemished. Completely pure. I am guessing that the holiness and purity of God is on a whole other level than merely ' white' , but its the closest we can get to the notion of the absence of anything dirty or dark. People often talk about God erasing our sins, as though we are the blank piece of paper which has been scribbled on and He comes with His divine eraser ( the blood of Jesus) and rubs out all our badness. But I'm not sure that analogy goes far enough. When you try to erase something from a piece of white paper you are always left with a trace, a hint a shadow of the original mark. And even if you manage to obliterate the mark you will probably damage the surface of the paper or crease it and leave evidence behind. God's forgiveness isnt like that. He makes all things new. I think He takes our graffiti damaged, dirty piece of paper and throws it into the fire, then produces a new piece, but this time plastic- laminated in the blood of Jesus. Next time we make a mistake, spill the ink, blot our copy books we can simply wipe clean with water ( the washing of the word) and start over. And the wonderful thing is that His mercies are new every morning. So today you get a fresh clean page on which to write another sentence or chapter of your God story. What are you going to write today?
